Ubuntu: get real GNOME shell experience
Ubuntu canceled their own unity desktop and switched to GNOME shell. Of course they customized it their ugly own way (Although the Ubuntu font is very nice, most other graphical choices they make are nothing but disgusting). With their change back to GNOME the Ubuntu GNOME flavor was discontinued. So there was no real GNOME shell experience available to Ubuntu anymore – just the customized crap.
Well: there actually is a simple solution to get most of the original GNOME feeling back:
sudo apt-get install gnome-session
If you have automatic login enabled you need to switch that of (at least for one reboot since it will remember your last choice) and restart (or just logout). Now when the system starts, there is a small cog icon beside the login button where you can choose GNOME session.
